In 2018, Boris Labbé directed the short film The Fall, a work that pushes his graphic and cinematographic research to a more monumental scale, using a dramatic register and anguish.

Inspired by Dante, Bosch, Brueghel, Botticelli or Goya, The Fall, traces the creation of Hell. In the animated film made from 3,500 Indian ink and watercolor drawings, scanned, and assembled digitally, we slide from one teeming tableau to another. The animation is based on repetitive motifs of plants, animals, humans, and monsters who are in perpetual motion.

The exhibition shows a selection of drawings from the animated sequences created for the film, image by image, drawing after drawing. It shows the graphic game of shapes and colors, in the footsteps of the artist’s references. The exhibition is like a “negative” look of the cinematographic work: unlike the film, the drawings on a white background are luminous, delicate, fragile and on a small scale.
