Exhibitions of comics and prints: Igor Hofbauer

Igor Hofbauer, one of the most successful and popular Croatian comic artists, illustrators, and printmakers, returns to Alkatraz Gallery for the first time in 14 years, this time as a special guest and (among other things) a juror at the Animateka festival, whose 2021 poster was designed by Hofbauer.
On display is a curated overview of his body of work from recent years: original drawings and sketches to provide insight into the genesis and form of his comic art expression, as well as a best-of of his posters, prints, and illustrations. The exhibit also features two five-colour prints produced by the International Centre of Graphic Arts, Ljubljana. During the Animateka festival, the exhibition will extend to the Kinodvor Gallery.

Igor Hofbauer (Zagreb, 1974) is one the leading figures in comic art and illustration in Croatia. After a few years of studying at the Zagreb art academy, he devoted himself full-time to illustration and design, leaving his mark on the visual identity of the Zagreb club scene by designing numerous posters for the club ‘Močvara’ (and many other clients across Europe thereafter), as well as many record sleeves and book covers. Occasionally, he also works as a set designer for theatre and the Croatian national broadcaster. In 2008, his first comic album Prison Stories was published by Otompotom, Zagreb, and Chili Com Carne, Portugal. This was followed by several other albums such as Mister Morgen, Inspector Gürtel, etc. Hofbauer lives and works in Zagreb.
