Opening day

The coming week offers 348 animated shorts and 12 animated feature films, 4 exhibitions, 2 evening get-togethers, and 1 concert. The festival is bringing together 194 filmmakers and other guests from Slovenia and other countries, to join the audience at 58 screenings and 25 events for professionals as part of the Animateka PRO platform. All this at one festival! And all of it begins today.

At 5 pm, you are warmly invited to attend the opening of The Elephant programme with a set of shorts entitled ‘How It Grows... Butterfly’ (6+).
Or join us at 6:30 pm as we continue with the opening of Marie Paccou’s Flipped Books exhibition in the Slovenian Cinematheque.

At 8:30 pm, we are moving back to Kinodvor for the official opening ceremony. This year’s festival is dedicated to the memory of the Dutch artist and member of the Animateka 2015 jury, Rosto, who sadly passed away earlier this year. At the event we are paying tribute to him by screening two of his films, Reruns and No Place Like Home, in addition to a selection of other films to give a sneak preview of ‘The Baltics Visiting’ and ‘Animated TV Series’ programmes, and films by jury members.

The opening ceremony will be followed by the opening of the exhibition of works by Edmunds Jansons, ‘Following the Line’, in the Kinodvor Gallery, and a social in the Kinodvor Café. At the Slovenian Cinemathque, Day 1 of the festival will close with the screening of the outstanding feature film Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles.
