The big opening night of the jubilee edition

Animated film will step out of the big screen and meet the audience in a completely new and suprising way. Get ready for the big opening night of the jubilee festival edition!

We'll start Animateka 2013 with four stereoscopic 3D projections in Kinodvor, the first one, a world premiere of the last film by Kolja Saksida, Koyaa: Roža, will open the Elephant programme.

The other three that will mark the grand opening of the festival are all from the Canadian NFB: Theodore Ushev's Gloria Victoria and the 3D dance spectacles Lost Action: Trace 3D and Ora.

Gloria Victoria is recycling the elements of surrealism and cubism, this animated short focuses on the relationship between art and war. Lost Action: Trace 3D is an Experimental dance film about the revolving cycles of human conflict. An urgent act of remembrance inspired by fading legacies of WWI. Combining the raw physicality of athletic power with Theodore Ushev’s hauntingly distinct artwork, the film resonates universal themes of the shared effects of conflict, loss, and rescue we experience as we cycle infinitely through states of love and war. Ora is a stunning meeting between the artistic worlds of choreographer José Navas and filmmaker Philippe Baylaucq. It is the first film to use 3D thermal imaging, producing visuals like none that have ever been seen before: the luminous variations of body heat seen on skin, bodies emitting a multitude of colours, a space filled with movement that transforms itself.

Besides the 3D films we will also present Jaka Oman's animated Slovenian Western Wanted, an animated film that combines in an ingenious way the traditional Slovenian countryside with the Wild West, with a hint of contemporary criticism.

As always, the first festival night will also be the night of an animated feature film premiere, this year it's Patrice Leconte's The Suicide Shop. The film is based on the book with the same name, written by Jean Teule. Both authors will be present at the premiere, and you will have a chance to meet them again on Tuesday, December 3rd, at 13:00 in Kinodvor cafe, at the Working breakfast.

Te Suicide Shop will be screened again the morning after the premiere, on December 3rd at 11:00 in Kinodvor.
